Roy's Gas n' Grab
Film + TV
Branding and environmental graphics for Roy’s Gas n’ Grab, an eighties era gas station set as seen on American Horror Story: 1984.
I established the look of Roy's after careful research into the era in which we imagined it to be built – the 1950s – and the decade that our characters would be encountering it – the 1980s.
I prepared graphics for construction as a full-scale neon sign, including the creation of to-scale construction drawings and instructions for our scenic artists and fabricators.
I digitally designed a custom paint job for this 1979 Chevy G20 before handing off art to our paint department to create vehicle skins. In episode one, we get to see the van pull into the gas station.
A series of vintage 1980s advertisements were created for the mechanic's bay at the gas station, with halftone dot pattern and hand-painted airbrushing applied to add realism.
